Zarif calls for closer trade, cultural ties with Georgia

TEHRAN, Apr. 18 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif met with the Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze and emphasized the need to boost trade and cultural relations between Tehran and Tbilisi.

Georgia’s Kobakhidze, while welcoming the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, called for development of political, economic and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. He recalled his invitation of Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to visit Georgia expressing hope that the visit will take place in the present year.

Zarif, for his part, conveyed warm greeting of Larijani and emphasized the need to deepen parliamentary relations between Iran and Georgia.

Referring to the frequent visit of Iranians to Eurasian country and the need to encourage Georgians to visit the beautiful country of Iran, he said “rise in tourism will lead to an uplift in trade, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries though Iranians who enter Georgia need to be provided with food facilities and halal packages.”

Later at the meeting, the two sides exchanged views over venues for collaborations and increased cooperation in trade, economic, investment, scientific and university arenas.
